Kristi and Jason were married at the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center at the University of Kansas last Saturday.  Following the wedding we headed onto campus for a brief portrait session in the Kansas summer heat and then onward to the Eldridge Hotel for an elegant reception and dance.

I promised Patty that the excessive heat wave we have been having here would pass on her wedding day and we’d all enjoy 74 degree weather. Well, the wedding day arrived and the rain began. Hard rain. I called Jared to see if they wanted to relocate our portrait location from the gardens at Lake Shawnee to somewhere a bit more dry. He told me that Patty really wanted the outside shots and if we only got one it would be fine. So I loaded the car and headed to the lake for a 3:30pm portrait session with Patty, Jared and the entire wedding party.  Just as I arrived on location, the rain stopped!  The sun came out and for the next 30 minutes we shot portraits in the gardens just like Patty wanted. The temperature didn’t quite cooperate like I had promised, but hey, the rain stopped long enough for photos and all was well in the end.

The poor couple are now honeymooning in St. Lucia.  Patty and Jared, if you are reading this, thanks again for an amazing day!

Last fall Jill and Josh came to Topeka for their engagement photos on one of the windiest days I can remember.  It seemed liked there was no way we could do the shoot, but due to distance and schedules they were troopers and braved the chilling winds to complete what turned out to be a fantastic session.  Fast forward to their wedding in Wichita last Saturday which oddly enough was amazingly windy.  So windy in fact, I slipped out at dinner to place a cell call to my wife for a weather update.  Just like last fall though, all went off without a hitch.

Jill and Josh are an amazing couple.  I can’t recall ever meeting two people more alike.  They are both intelligent, attractive and fun loving.  I expect they will live a very long and happy life together.  Hopefully their honeymoon in Maui isn’t ridiculously windy!

The wedding was held at Chapel Hill Fellowship and the reception at the Hyatt Regency.

Leah and Jon’s wedding had a distinct feel to it. Obviously, Leah’s 40s vintage style gown and matching hairdo were over-the-top-awesome, but that wasn’t the vibe I was getting. No, this couple from Brooklyn, New York were rockstars at heart. The officiant even quoted Prince during the ceremony which took place at Danforth Chapel on the KU campus. The reception, dinner and dance were held at the Eldridge Hotel in downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

Lynette and Jeff were married at the beautiful Victorian Veranda Country Inn in Lawrence, Kansas. Click on any of the images below to view them larger.

I couldn’t resist taking this photograph at Lindsay and Eric’s wedding last week. During the reception I saw the grandparents sitting a table and I took this quick snap of one of the grandfathers. What an amazing face!

Recently I had the pleasure of shooting along side some of my favorite people in the biz. Doug Stremel at Blam Creative and Jeff Carson at Gizmo Pictures. These guys always come up with the coolest/funniest tv commercials and working on the set is never dull.

This time, the ad featured very small children. Rather than re-tell the story, head over to Doug’s blog and check out the writer/director’s point of view.

Michael in Volland

Michael in Volland

A few weeks ago (on Friday the 13th no less) I spent the day with three of my photobuddies exploring the vast flint hills of Kansas.  One of our stops included the ghost town of Volland.  While the town itself really only consists of two or three buildings, it was still very interesting.  During our trip I had decided to make a portrait of each of my friends.  It was in Volland that I chose to photograph my brother, Michael, who is a travel photographer. I’ll talk more about our trip in a future post.
